Gangnam: K-Pop, K-Beauty & Han River Nights
From a thousand-year temple amid skyscrapers to idol cafés, Garosugil, and the rainbow fountain
Gangnam is the district that made Korea famous — home to K-pop agencies, K-beauty clinics, designer boutiques, and Seoul's most sophisticated café culture. This one-day course moves through every layer of it: a peaceful Buddhist temple in the shadow of glass towers, the iconic SM Town store and Starfield Library, a leisurely stroll down Garosugil's tree-lined boulevard, K-beauty and idol cafés in Apgujeong and Cheongdam, and a finale at the Banpo Han River fountain show as Seoul lights up at night.

Getting around: All stops are reachable by subway (Line 2, Line 9, Bundang Line) or short taxi rides — no car needed.
Bongeunsa Temple
⏱ 1.0hBegin the day with an unexpected moment of calm — a 1,200-year-old Buddhist temple tucked directly behind the COEX convention centre, surrounded by some of Seoul's tallest skyscrapers. The contrast is striking: pine trees, stone lanterns, and the smell of incense just steps from glass towers. The 23-metre Mireuk Buddha statue gazes over the city. Arrive before 9am for near-total solitude.
SM Town COEX Artium & Starfield Library
⏱ 1.5hTwo Gangnam icons side by side. The SM Town store is the official merchandise hub for EXO, aespa, NCT, and all SM artists — plus a hologram theatre showing artist performances. A short walk inside COEX Mall leads to Starfield Library, Seoul's most-photographed interior: a soaring 13-metre-high bookshelf atrium open to the public. The light and scale make it unlike any library you've seen.
Korean BBQ Lunch (Gangnam Style)
⏱ 1.0hGangnam does Korean BBQ at a different level — premium hanwoo (Korean wagyu) cuts, marble-finish table grills, and banchan presented like a restaurant rather than a canteen. The area around Gangnam Station has everything from mid-range BBQ chains to upscale hanwoo specialty restaurants. A proper sit-down grilled meat lunch is a non-negotiable part of any Seoul day.
Garosugil
⏱ 1.5hGangnam's most charming street — a 600-metre boulevard lined with ginkgo trees, independent concept stores, architecture-forward cafés, and design studios. The "saerosu-gil" side alleys branching off the main road are packed with Seoul's most creative small-batch brands and photo-worthy café interiors. Perfect for an afternoon espresso and window shopping without the overwhelming scale of a mall.
Apgujeong Rodeo & Cheongdam Idol Cafés
⏱ 2.0hThe epicentre of K-beauty and K-culture. Apgujeong Rodeo Street is Korea's answer to Beverly Hills — flagship beauty clinics, luxury brand showrooms, and celebrity sighting territory. A short walk into Cheongdam-dong reveals the idol café phenomenon: themed cafés run by (or dedicated to) specific artists, packed with official merchandise, photo books, and fan communities from Japan, China, and beyond. The area around SM and JYP offices draws fan pilgrims year-round.
Banpo Moonlight Rainbow Fountain
⏱ 1.5hEnd the day at the Han River — the world's longest bridge fountain, stretching 200 metres along both sides of Banpo Bridge. After dark, the fountain erupts in a choreographed water-and-light show set to music, with the city skyline glowing beyond. The riverside park fills with locals on picnic mats, convenience store chicken, and canned beer — a quintessentially Korean summer evening. Shows run at set times; check the schedule before visiting.
